Yes, you need to watch them every bit as close as when longlining or pulling cranks.

I modified my Off-shore minis several years ago so the top edge would always float. I Gorilla Glued a small length of round closed cell foam insulation that taxidermists use for bird necking. I now use tenncrappie's Lil' Spoiler boards for jigs, roadrunners and small cranks.

I run 3-4 boards off each side (Chris's boards are orange for left and green for right side). I put them out in a " V formation" so they are not the same distance back from the boat. If a fish hits or it hangs up, the board will drop back out of formation. You need to be watching for that.
