Default A windy day on wateree today

I must say, i knew the fish would be biting when it was a bit over 40 degrees pulling up to the wateree landing this morning and it was me and two other trucks. Just enough to get my hands cold. Got out on the water and got to my go to spot only to get 3 crappie before wind forced me off. Too many hung up anchors ultimately resulting in losing one of them. Ended up with 4 crappie, two stripers, and tons of cats. Found the stripers in a cove in 13' when i was trying to run from the wind. Also found the ultimate cat fish spot by accident. Was interesting hooking up with some of those beasts with crappie rods. I put this one in the livewell until the wife arrived to fish the last few hours, she hates these things.

Nothing wrong with fried catfish nuggets and a good catfish stew on a cold winter's day will warm your heart. Sounds like a good day to me.

Tim, glad you got a few. I must say your are a die hard to get out there in the wind and anchor down. Sorry you lost an anchor. Pretty catfish you got. How big were the crappies and stripers?

A good mix bag of fish. With the wind you had a good day, enjoyed your report.

You're tougher than I am Tim. I thought I was going to freeze in the stadium watching football Saturday afternoon. I can't imagine being on the water in that wind! Looks like it was worth it! Nice catch of fish!

I know your confused about why I was using anchors, but unfortunately was the only way I could fish with the exception of a couple small coves. The clip for my anchor ultimately failed when the anchor got hung up and was using the big motor to try and unlodge it. This is not something I prefer doing but had no other choice other than cut the rope and meet the same fate. Even with two anchors deployed, I still was getting blown at .3 mph and new anchors were hung up when I stopped moving. After I lost the anchor, I used spot lock on the ipilot after deploying the rear anchor, bt not sure if the two batteries would've lasted all day.

It was chilly but not even cold enough yet for poly pros or gloves. The difficult par was having two dogs (we are dog sitting this week) and wife who had no windshield, otherwise I woudve ran up the lake more and fished the creeks by the state park. stopped fishing in the heaviest wind when the wife arrived at 1030 when it was warm. We fished until 3pm when we ranout of bait. Very little wind from 7-8am.
