Go big Gene....tie it off to each side of boat with float right behind motor. I actually have 3 different sizes depending on how strong the wind is.

EZ, I have 2 46's I run off the side then if it is bad and I really need to hold her back I have a 66. I have the big sock rigged on a harness like a sky harness, a carabiner on each end and enough line out to get about 4 ft behind the motor then just a overhand knot tied in the center. Clip my sock to the loop, one caribener to tie down ring on transom on one side and the other one to the oppisite side with a dump line tied off to a cleat. Works pretty good for me and keeps bow pretty straight. See some guys just tie off kinda towards center of boat and then steer bow with trolling motor.
If its bad enough that ur chains wont work.. u will need the big ens... GO BIG!!

I have 3 different sizes. I just throw one out the back behind the motor. I have a loop on the end of the rope, and I just put a pedestal in the base and slip the loop in it.
