Maybe I'm just seeing things but it seems to me a 9 to 11 inch black is alittle thicker than a 9 to 11 inch white crappie.

We catch both and i can't really say I prefer one over the other but my largest tend to be Whites.
I believe the crappie with the race stripe are the coolest. I have no control of which ones bites, therefore I have no preference. Eat 'em all.

I like the looks of a black crappie ( I put blacknose and black crappie in the same class).I think they are just a little thicker than a white generally. The blacks are a more aggressive fish and more susceptible to a variety of techniques than the whites. It has been my experience that white crappie tend towards a vertical and slower to still presentation, while blacks can often be caught shallower and hit a moving jig more often. Ideally a water has a good population of both. I want bluegill and redear....smallmouth,largemouth,and spots...white and black crappie....walleye and sauger... and so on and so forth
nice responses , I like both myself and in some cases they are somewhat the same . I tend to think the black crappie taste a bit more bream like though . Am so looking forward to a new spot that's off everyone's radar ,hear tell of some real big real pretty black crappie that go up a creek in the winter .
That all said I am much like the rest here I like them all and yes I think in many cases the blacks hit and fight a bit better .

We get both around here but I am more likely to keep a black than a white of equal length. They taste just the same but blacks tend to be a little thicker across the back which makes a better filet on smaller fish. Once they get 11 inches or better it doesn't matter to me.

God bless Charlie Brewer and Bobby Garland.
I fish DFW area as well and to me both are great in the pan.
More Black crappie where I fish. If either wants to take the jig, I won't be picky. Seem to taste the same to me.
