Default Got a question for you good folks!

As some of you may know, I've been kicking around the idea of opening a bait and tackle shop beside lake Ferguson. I know, keep my day job, which I am going to do. This shop will be on the side of our existing business. Just trying to get an idea of what folks like to see when they walk in a bait shop, name brands, baits, rods, and not just crappie specific. Also, if anybody knows of a good wholesaler to buy from, a point in the right direction would be a blessing. Already have one good one in the works and another locked down, but you can't have too many options.

Oh yea, and some pics of the fishes I've been catching!Name: IMG_2339.jpg

I like seeing quality names brands and quality hand tied jigs, teasers and baits. I like seeing the seasonal stuff up front. Cranks in cranking season etc. Poles, reels, line, and terminal tackle like swivels, weights, Fas Snaps, crappie rigs, and hooks should be readily available with a good selection. Also keep some cane poles rigged and ready. Not everyone has 60 bucks for a pole.

I think most people will want the same things YOU want!!! It's always easier to sell things that YOU like and use!!!!!!! You can advise them on how to use that kinda stuff and teach them how to be more productive in their quest. Good information for your customers keeps them coming back!!!!

Also offer a deal and good count on your Minnows, and offer them by the pound. Good quality bait with a good count will KEEP the doors swinging. Bait is a lost leader. It gets people in the door to buy other things.

I've owned a bait shop and the one thing I noticed was it is like farming, if the weather is not good then you don't make any MONEY !!

Very true, I understand it is going to be seasonal, and high water years will hurt it, but I sit at work every day and watch boats file by and it makes me think. Plus, I'm going to be up there everyday anyways, so it may not hurt to try it out

And when they are biting you will be working.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The sheep live in fear of the wolf but in the end it's the shepherd that eats them.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang and
a gun the goes bang when it is supposed to go click.

We also have two other employees so it won't be all on me. And as little as I get to fish anymore, I wouldn't know the difference lol
