I believe that the outer legs would give more action to attract more fish I believe that this design would be ideal with a 2 inch and I'm sure that the smallmouth would go crazy over it plus the other warm water game page it will be interesting to get some of these to try out to see the response in the water with the warm water game fish.

Make the tail a little wider and leave those legs off.....it will have plenty of action.......have the tail where you can run it together....or tear apart for two piece
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I wouldn't waste my time on a bait with the outside paddles.....too much going on with the bait. Keep it simple and if you want to do anything, do as G suggests and make the tail splitable as an option. The most effective baits are those that are kept simple.

I believe that this plastic bait would be good for trolling with the legs otherwise that you would have to use it as a jig vertically if you look closely at the plastic bait that he posted it is a split tail the only other thing would be the body would have to be changed the plastic bait in the picture is designed for bass fishing which that you would be used in a single hook and not a jig head.

The body is proportional isn't it BJ? I don't see it as an issue since the whole idea is to have bulkier bait. A light jig might see some issues if the plastic floats but a 1/16 should take it down. I like the basic beavertail idea, but the outside legs would have to go. I won't use any bait with tentacles hanging all over or too much commotion behind the hook.

Bob....You don't have to have legs to troll it spider rigging....the legs are really useless and give it too much bulk. It will work great with a 1/16 or 1/8 jig head. It would even work good long lining. Yum used to make some beaver style baits and they worked great trolling with a jig head. And it would still be good for vertical jiging

I thought the leg action would trigger more strikes when you are trolling. I like to do vertical jigging only in I only like to use one rod when I'm fishing I can never get used to doing what you guys do down south here I call it over harvesting
