OCONEE REPORT
Jim and I fished Lake Oconee today. We started in the mouth of Sugar Creek and pushed and pulled jigs DEEP. Due to the cloudy conditions we believed we could pick up scattered fish in the channels, flats and ledges. At 11:00 we had 13 good fish and decided to move down the lake. At mid lake we fished around the timber but not in the timber. We caught 12 more good fish and quit at 4:00. I used more weight on my long lines than I usually do and made longer casts. Some lines were double 1/16 oz jigs and others had single 1/16 oz jigs and a minimum of one 1/16 oz sinker. Other lines were even a bit heavier but fished on shorter lines. The big fish of the day was the one I'm holding in the picture. Jim caught it on a 14 foot rod with 6 lb. test and kept it out of the other lines. I netted it, unhooked it, got cut by it and dropped it twice before he photographed it. We had a great day and got our quota.
I'm not sure of everyone will agree but here are some things I believe to be true:
1) Just because the fish aren't biting in your favorite spot doesn't mean they aren't biting anywhere on the lake. Be willing to roll up and look for fish that will bite.
2) Before the sun gets high you may find the fish near timber but not always tight to it. The fish may be scattered early, late and on cloudy days.
3) Crappie are like crappie fishermen. They eat every day.

As you know...I was out there too! A morning to myself! ..peaceful...Nearly done with the 8 weeks of torture house renovations! Lots of guide trips and work, so my posts have been ...well...darn near non existent this year! ...I kept 14 over 12" yesterday am and tossed back another dozen or so...Off the water at 10ish....Project list was waiting! Good as always to see you and Jim out there!

Good to see you too Jody. I know what it is like to finish a major home renovation. I thought a complete redo of the master bathroom was tough (and it was). That was before the complete redo of the deck. My wife and I started on the deck in April two years ago. It took us four months to finish and nearly killed us both. 23 stringers!
