You Really need to get two new batterys.....they should be the same group size .....type and age.

I am looking to replace the (12 volt) trolling motor on my 17 ft 1989 Bass Tracker. I'm thinking maybe a 24 volt , 65 lb thrust. Is that. Good choice? Is Minn Kota the best brand? I think I can get one for about $500 plus an additional battery.

I would go as large as my pocket book would allow in the 24 volt category. I had an 80lb thrust on a 17 and it was really nice. I moved up to a 21 and the 80 still does the job.

Been thinking about upgrading , I got a 24 volt 70# riptide hand steer , bout 3 years old.. Works fine. I might be willing to part with it.
I have 45 edge on a 1648 boat. 12 volt. Have 2 battery's inline. Works all day.

I have them wired pos to pos neg to neg. Been that way for 4 years not a problem. Lights,bilge,2 fish finders and big motor are all wired with them too. Big motor charges both battery's when Iam running.

I think bigger is better. Just depends on size/weight of boat. I put a 80 Lb Maxxum on mine. Love it. Just always the added cost of an extra battery. And I put an on board charger. Seems to make life a bit easier.

Got a 55 lb Trevorra with Iilot and it pushes my 18 ft Xpress all day with no prob. Get an onboard charge, min two bank, three better. If you use two batteries, wire them pos to pos and neg to neg and you have a 'strong' 12 system. Important to not have one a couple years old and ADD a new on. You'll drag the new one down to the inefficiency of the older one. Same series and same age. You'll be good to go for some time. I only have one battery for TM and one for starter and other accessories and they get me plenty good. Good luck....now go fishin!!!
