    Default Fuel problem?

1999 merc 50 elpto 2 stroke. Primer bulb losing prime at low speed. After running at say 3000 rpm for awhile engine will start to die and you have to pump bulb to keep it going. Runs fine at higher rpms. Has new blue fuel line, bulb and fitting. Checked for lose connections. What else should I look for?

Vent is good. Does it even with cap off. Bulb don't suck together its just empty of fuel. Guess I'll check fuel pump.

Pump the bulb up hard as you can. Pull cover" check every fuel connection for any signs of leakage. And from bulb back to tank. Could have a slight leak letting it suck some air.

    Default Fuel problem?

Sucking air from somewhere. If it was the fuel pump, it wouldn't run and then quit. It could be a bad diaphragm in the pump tho, but I'm putting my money on an air leak.

At 17 years old if its never been replaced....Its probably needs a new fuel pump....the diaphragm is probably bad.

Buddy of mine had the same issue on his 90HP Merc on his tin Triton. He had carbs rebuilt and spent a bunch on it. Ends up the fuel line from the tank to the engine was collapsing from ethanol in the fuel. He replaced every inch of his fuel lines/bulb and problem went away.

Not interested in starting an argument about ethanol.

Yes....could be that...he said he replaced the fuel line and bulb....He needs to replace all of the other fuel lines......I would do that first and go from there.
