Nice looking jigs Don! I have never tried a rod with the line run through it but it sounds like a good idea.

Great looking pole and jigs. I hope you load the boat with crappie on them real soon. Ain't nothing like catching a fish on a jig you tied yourself, except for maybe catching a fish on one that someone else tied. LOL. Seriously, I love to tie my own jigs. Love to give them away too, or swap with someone else who ties. Keep tying. They look good.
I made myself such a rod last year because I too got tired of having my line wrap in the guides. Only on mine I put the hole right past the first guide. This give you line control with your left hand making it way more convenient and usable. My only problem is I tried braid but it stuck to the inside of the rod blank once it was wet. I changed over to Mono and although it worked much better I was still having trouble with the line binding at times. Maybe something in the rod was loose and causing the problem. I will pull it out and wash out the inside to see if that is my problem. The idea is great and it works well if only I can get the line to flow freely.

I have that problem at times I just put the jig in the water and give it a twitch or 2. I use the power pro that is round and stiff.
It is not for casting. I use it fishing tight cover in muddy water. I can get the jig out to about 20 ft from the boat. Now the old man who designed them I heard could cast it like a fly rod and could get some distance. I like to put out about 2 feet of line from the cork to the tip, hold the rod at a 90 degree angle to the boat and skirt the bank popping the cork. I keep the trolling motor as slow as it can go. This technique is deadly during the spawn.
I tied a few more tonight. This sure is addictive.

This one is from a squirrel tail I had laying around
This one was the first one I tied and added some flash to it

This one was from an old road runner that the fish destroyed last year.
