The only time i use braid for panfish is deepwater perch fishing on Lake Erie. We're fishing over 50 ft water and holding the rod, so the braid lets me feel the strike better. I use a 3 ft leader of mono most times tho.

All or mostly braid
All or mostly mono
Both!
I use 20lb Seaguar Smackdown braid, and it is so thin, that I use a MODIFIED "Double" Palomar with ZERO issues...unlike the NORMAL double Palomar, I wrap through the jig eyelet twice....this puts double the line on metal and then I finish the palomar...it tightens down regular and it will not come loose...IMHO, it is the strongest knot for superlines.

I had to go with both. My surf gear is all braid with fluoro leaders. My fresh water is mostly mono with some braid mixed in. For ice fishing it's more braid and some mono for light jigging.
For crappie & panfish I still like mono but use the braid on my bass outfits.
What about titanium or stainless steel guides for braid? Yes or no?
Biggest problem with braids & guides (cutting a groove in them) was/is for the el cheapo metal guides. Most guides being used today are OK with braid ... however, there are some metals that make some braids "sing" when coming through them. Ceramic insert guides do not "sing" as much or as bad as straight metal guides. In my experiences, anyway.

Also remember that there are many different levels of braided lines...just like anything else, there are cheap braids, medium priced, and high end braided line...the high end braid uses the best materials from the Dyneema and Spectra makers, it is normally woven tighter with 8 to 10 strands, and is smaller, stronger, slicker, softer, and easier to work with.
Much of the cheaper braid, like Mono, is now made in China....and is subpar....it also looks like rope and will sing a tune.
The best braids right now are coming from Germany, Japan, and Australia.

Thanks guys and Merry Christmas!
I know this is a older post, but thought I would post a braid I have just started using. It is KastKing. You can get it off ebay and several other dealers. Started using it on my striper rods in the 40 lb size and so far it has been great. Had it on my reels for probably 4 months. Just ordered it in 12 lb to put on some outfits to pull crank baits. I have ordered cheap braid that was exactly that- cheap made. This is not the cheapest - probably half the name brands, but so far it is doing a great job for me. Will keep you informed as I get more use out of it.

I use braid with a piece of mono attached to the end. I seldom lose more than the piece of mono on the end and change my line only once every 5 or 6 years.
