Looks good to me. I'll fish it anytime. I've tried this jig before and they don't hold up as long for me, probably my lack of skills lol. But the fish liked them pretty good. Great work as always skip.

Thank you! What I am doing different than maybe what you tried is I laid down a thread base and covered that with flash. Then on top of it there is UV glue which I palmered the hackle into before set the glue. Then after in place it's zapped with UV light and that should keep the stem glued in. Also you can wrap copper wire over the stem to keep in in place in case it's cut. Also one other thing is the Chineese strung saddle hackle stems are more brittle and break easier, even while tying. The hackle I am using should be much better to start and then the glue should make a huge difference. It's a bit of a pain, but I am thinking tips should be the king of slow fall jig!
What do you think about the way I am trying this one as far as method?

Nice Skip. I tried some of those a while back and had the failures you spoke of. They caught fish but tore up pretty quick. The UV should be just what it takes. Had your thinkin cap on for that one.

You can send those sloppy one north if you don't think they'll catch fish. What's wrong with it?

I was mostly just irritated that I got off track as how to do this or the order I should have done it. Plus the palmered hackle is a bit sloppy, not a lot, just not what I wanted for the first one. Really started with I tied in my hackle on the wrong end at the wrong time and should be a little less thick really. Not a lot, but a little less and maybe get a peek at the shinny under stuff. I am just being picky on my own tying and I know better than how I tied it.
Not a big deal, just a little irritated at self!

This tail just happened to be marabou and not hackle. I use both a lot actually. This jig has no neck hackle, the body is saddle hackle and not that cheap strung stuff either.
Here is a picture of the kind of hackle I am using for this jig. These are called Bugger Packs and Whiting makes these. You can see there is no strung feathers here and all are on the hide.
Both pieces came out of one pack and you can also notice there are also some really nice tiny hackle feathers in this too!
