We went out to grab some lunch today and I rode some areas I knew were safe. I was interested to see the Wildlife Pond (AKA Barr Lake) which was home to our Wildlife Club for 55 years until politics and greed took it away. The dam failed on this 100 acre lake and took out two more dams below it on 12 mile creek.
For those of you who met at Creekside Rest last Friday, the two lower parking lots where some of you parked is completely gone. At the back of the lots was the dam for the Old Mill pond and it was the 3rd dam in the chain on 12 mile creek. The bridge there on Highway 1 has been closed until about 30 minutes ago and just reopened. It is a major traffic artery into and through Lexington. 18 families across the road were evacuated and now 10 of those houses have been condemned and the families cannot return to them.
Our new club and pond took a lot of water and we had some washout at a culvert, but really minor compared to all the other damage. The pond if overflowing at our spillway runoff so hopefully the dam will hold.
Our house is on a high hill in downtown Lexington so we have been spared any damage. 14 mile creek is just below us and the bridge there has been closed since Sunday. It is far enough downhill from us that the water is not likely to reach us. Thanks to all who have and continue to pray for the folks here. It is going to be a long recovery.

Ray, we're lucky that we are on the side of a slope here and the rain just rolled down the road to the lake. I've had four calls from folks in York co. and N. Myrtle that were worried about us because they did not really know how bad is was down here until this morning. I've been sitting here for three days watching WIS and I am amazed by the damage that I have seen. If you need what used to be a strong back and still a pretty weak mind to help you out in any way, shoot me a pm, I'm only 10 minutes away.

I really felt bad when I heard about the Old Mill pond. I knew some of those homes were not going to make it. I feel sorry for all the families who have lost just about everything if not everything. I have them in my prayers.
Our pond was spared but now we took out boards before hand. We took out 3 boards well before the storm hit, 1 on Thursday and 2 Friday morning. What I don't understand is the pond above ours a family that lives right beside it asked the people who live on that pond to please lower their pond. Which this same family has had their yard/house flooded by this same pond twice already along with another house across the street. Well I was told the response she got was they didn't like how the pond looks when it is lowered. Why do people have to be like this all they had to do was lower it and when everything had passed through let the pond back up. That's our plan of what were doing. I've also heard that the creek that our pond feeds to has been dammed up down stream. Which may explain why the water was about to or did over the night go over the road. I'm sure though if something broke I would have gotten blamed for it even though we had done I believe everything we could have done. I just thought something of this size to hit us that people would work together boy I was wrong. I'm sorry had to let it off my chest. I just don't understand people sometimes and now I'm now done.

I just read a Facebook post from Creekside Restaurant and they think they will be back in business by end of week. Right now we have 39 roads closed in Lexington County.
