Just because the pen says it ain't bogus doesn't mean it ain't bogus. I used to use one at my store until the wife and I went to SeaWorld in Florida. I paid for some stuff for the grandkids with cash and the lady looked at the light with every bill. I said "Get you one of those pens and you won't have to do that. makes it much quicker" She then told me about how they used to use the pens and had some bogus $100's go through that checked out ok with the pen. What the crooks were doing was washing 1's, 5's, 10's, and 20's and reprinting. The pen said it was ok because it only checks to make sure the paper is paper used for printing money, not the denomination of the bill. Ever since then I check'em against the light to make sure I see the same head in the hologram to match the head on the bill.
