I don't know what end of Tennessee you are from, but if it is the west end, the next time you need help staying awake let me know and I will gladly volunteer.

The reels and rods are clean and put away for next week. I had to make sure to not stay home and take a nap yesterday as I was having final sleep study done last night...so what better way to stay awake than to go fishing all day. Had my test and they woke me at 4:40 a.m. this morning and asked if I was ready to get out of there.....I said yes and got in vehicle and headed fishing to close out the week. The shell crackers seem to be on bed. They were all up shallow and next to the banks. The Gills were scattered all around. I used a Bison colored Trout Magnet with a 1/24 ounce jig head to catch all fish. All fish caught on 2# test line using a Tict Ice Cube Rockin' Drift 6' 9" Ajing UL Rod out of Japan. It is an absolute joy to fish with. Some of the pics were taken in too bright of light so today I made sure to get fish in the shade to get better pics. Over the past two days had over 6 dozen hard fighting...drag pulling fish...life is good!

You are on some quality fish there where you are at. When you get the boat just back it down to the water and fish out the back. lol Nice pictures!
Boy Howdey that's some fun fishin going on there![]()
Every day is a holiday and every meal is a picnic.
Nice catch. How do you do so good from the shore? I tried today, managed 2 small bass and probably 15 hits from bluegill, but ieither the hookmwas too big, or they werent aggressive enough and just pecked the bait or jig to death.
I am very blessed to have 6 good bluegill lakes within 60 miles of me. I have put in a lot of time learning these lakes, and this time of year from the bank luck plays a big part. I started out at Pickwick Dam looking for white bass. They weren't there so on my way back home I have to drive by those 6 bluegill lakes. I will stop at each one if I am not too tired and try to catch some fish. There are years that those Gills...shell cracker....will move shallow after the first spawn and stay shallow all through summer. Five years ago at Laurel Hill Lake one could fish anywhere along the bank of that 300 acre lake and catch big Gills at will. Now that hasn't happened since then but there will be days that they will move up shallow and then there are many days one needs to be in a boat as they are out in deeper water. I fish Center Hill Lake quite a bit.....but bank fishing there for Gills is no good at all in summer. The big ones on that lake will go to the bluffs and suspend in 15-30 feet of water and once you find them you can load the boat. So to say I am excited about getting my boat is an understatement. For the past 5 years I have had the option of putting a kayak in the water if I could not get anything from the bank. I got out of kayaking in early spring....and I have to tell you I miss not having that ability to get out in deeper water. Once I get my boat though I will not completely give up bank fishing for Gills. I have a lot of good spots that depending on time of year you can catch all the quality Gills you want right from the bank. Pickwick is a good example of that. In spring bank fishing there is awesome....but come fall I have also located a spot from the bank that gives up tons of Gills from September sometimes up through October. So no need to put a boat in when they are stacked just a few yards off the bank. Not all of these places hold 8-9 inch Gills or 10-12 inch shell cracker. But fishing with 2# test line and UL rods one can still have all the fun you want with 6-7 inch chunky Gills. Fishing 5-6 days a week also gives me a great advantage of finding fish. You fish that much you have to stumble on them many times just by dumb luck.

Those are awesome catches, great job. I don't understand why I can't seem to catch the shellcracker at lake barkley this time of year. I can catch them only in April, May and maybe early June, they then vanish to deep water I guess. You're catching them though, I'd love to figure them out at ky lake and Barkley. I always had success catching them in the fall up here in Indiana, about 13 feet on bottom.
Wow....great catch
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

& a good week it was.
Keep in mind the TWRA lakes I am pulling most of these fish out of range in size from 300 acres down to 30 acres. KY Lake and Barkley are a different story. Many call the shell cracker the "Mystery Fish". Wondering where they go to hang out until the fall bite starts after they spawn. Without a boat or kayak on Center Hill with a side imaging unit I would have a hard time finding them also......it is a big impoundment. I try to find bare...or rocky bottom...and try to keep the jig on the bottom as I work it in. Yesterday I noticed when I would get close to the bank that if I didn't keep my retrieve slow to keep the jig on the bottom I wouldn't get any hits. They were right in front of me...on the bottom.....but they wouldn't move up a foot to hit the lure. If I kept it on bottom more often than not I got a fish. This has been a great summer for me so far....this is not the norm.
