    Default B&M Rod Floats

But no name spinning rod didn't. During an awkward moment this morning trying a modified spider rigging/ slow trolling technique without the benefit of my rod holders, a blue gill jerked a 9 ft B&M rod right out of the boat. The handle was floating as the gill hauled my rod across Ivan Lake at a faster pace than my trolling motor was set for. Scrambling to adjust tm speed and reach for the rod, I spilled a half full jar of crappie nibbles all over the front deck and kicked a spinning rod rigged with a slip float out of the boat. Did manage to retrieve the B&M rod with fish still attached, but spinning rig is lost.

Caught seven crappie and two bluegill in two hours starting at 06:30. BG Bluegrass in 8 FOW, 5 ft deep. Having that gill for supper tonight...extra crispy!

If you are familiar with crappie nibbles you know that most of the time you can turn the jar upside down and only a few fall out. Not this time. I had treated these with garlic salt and partially dried them. They ALL fell out. For some reason that bothered me as much as losing the rod and reel.
But it was a good time!

Sorry to hear you lost your rod George. I had a hellofa scare myself yesterday. Linda and I decided to do a short afternoon trip. All was well up to the time we got to our first stop. I put the TM down and then the front transducer. I adjusted the angle of my HB 798 side imaging sonar up front and it popped off and fell into the water. I stop breathing and my heart stopped pumping for a couple of seconds as I dove to the floor and reached over the bow to catch it. Thank the Good Lord it floated because I would have been about 2 seconds too late. I blew the water out of the connectors and plugged it in. It went to work without a hitch.
