I'd much rather they run right on by on plane than slow down and push more water causing a bigger wake.

I was reading D10s thread about moving brush piles and one reply made me think about something. Doesn't a boat make less wake running wide open than slowing down when passing someone? Now I'm not saying pass really close to someone at full speed but i ve had guys trying to be nice in my opinion and slow down to about half speed while passing me and send bigger waves towards me. running a 15' Jon boat I feel like I make less wake running wide open than any other speed but idle. Thoughts on the proper manners? Yes I said manners, I believe they still exist.
There are 2 speeds to pass by someone, wide open or dead idle, period. Had to call a guy a jackass earlier today. I idled more than a mile today at one point because of all the boats in there, when I got the chance I planed off and ran but most of the time I was at IDLE, not 1000rpms, IDLE!!! Some folks just dont get it. TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED!!!!

No doubt I like it better when they are on plane. If they slow down out of respect, but does cause bigger wakes it doesnt bother me because the intentions are good. But its definitely worse. Im more worried about the space they give me while passing. I fished Washington last monday and you wouldnt believe the people that would drive right in front of my spider poles!!! They first couple times it made me mad but then i started catching a fish everytime a boat wud drive right in front of me. I was fishing out in front of a boat ramp, so boat taffic was expected, but they would NOT drive behind my boat. It didnt matter which direction I was trolling, they wud drive RIGHT in front of me!
like to see them stay on plane or down to a idle but at a distance and not wait till they get right on top of you to slow down.

Good post and good point. I, honestly had never thought about it, but you guys are 100% correct. I guess a boat does create more wake when slowing down. I have been guilty of that before..........slowing down, but not dead idle slowing down when passing another fisherman. I will definitely think about this next time. Thanks Jbrewer for starting this thread. You are never too old to learn (realize) new things. GTT
