Something I should say about Softex and did on another board so here is what I said there incase any of you want to try using it.....
I have 2 jars of Softex ready to use, one has been out a while and used a lot, it's pretty thick and if gets too thick I just add a little from the new jar to thin it out some. Then I have the thin one which is pretty full jar and it will get used as time moves on and maybe one day replace the other one or maybe the other one will just keep getting added to from new jars. This way you have a good one for a fast build up as it's easy to work with then and one thin and makes a good final coat on some things or I also use it on some Guinea feathers I use on my wing jigs. For this I use the thin and a point to take a small amount to run next to the stem on under and above side of the wing so it will hopefully keep the end tips apart kind of like a twin tail??
skip what do you use for a color and SOFTEX also can you paint on that stuff say like with vinyl.

No Bob not really. First I tied a jig and the body I used Diamond Braid in Green and then I use a wooden skewer point to apply the Softex. If not familiar with Diamond Braid it's like a braided mylar I guess stuff that is very small and kind of flat so no bulk really, but colors are metallic and nice and bright. However I can't say since I have not fished with it without protection, I would think it may tear up fairly easy so I coat it with the Softex to make it like a solid body, but much tougher than say a soft plastic.
