Hate to hear about the long stays in hospital so may God Bless you!
Not sure where your heart is after that post as you said fly tying travel kit, meaning is it more for jigs or flies or both? If flies you absolutely need to read some info on a couple other sites like FAOL (Fly Anglers On Line) as they have some really womderful lessons with step by step pics and words. Great stuff and where I learned a lot of what I use all the time. Go to this link and click on Fly Tying, then BeginNing Tying, the. After that there is intermediate and then advanced. These will teach you a lot of great patterns and how to tie them. You can use a lot of that for jigs as they use chenille too so just learn how they tie it in and do that. Then the same for all the other materials, just find a pattern using that and copy what they do.

If you like this let me know and I will give you more links!

Only thing I will say about he videos is this....when I started there was none of them out there so most of them have been done in the last few years. Also know not everyone that makes a video os a good tier so don't pick up any bad habits from them. If a question come up about something, check with the lessons on FAOL to confirm it's right or just try it like FAOL does. I know some have started tying and made a video just a few days after tying their fist jigs and saw one even did a lot backwards and just didn't know any better. So just take some of that with a grain of salt!

Thank you! I make my own as the little bottles are just a rip off in my mind. About 10 years ago I learned if I take some thinner ( I use MEK for several reasons) and mix that with Clear High Gloss Lacquer it will soak in and dry super fast. If I really want some head glue like a thread neck I make a different glue, but if I just want to use something to coat over the lead head I can just use the straight Lacquer, but I do keep some Sally Henson's Hard as Nail handy for lots of things. However when I finish I add a drop of my glue right to the spot I cut the thread after finish and it will soak in so fast you can't see it and it will never leave a hard spot as full strength stuff will leave and I hate that. I don't want anyone to be able to tell I added glue! It works! I mix the MEK and Lacquer about 50/50, I do not measure it I just add what I think is 50/50.

Oh and I still have most of the first Qts I bought for this glue! I bought one Qt of each and they are still more than 3/4 full!

I used the one for wood and says super clear, more so than polyurethane, durable protection and fast drying. High Gloss Clear and brand I bought is Watco. Don't really know anything about auto clear.

Watch some of the videos from April Vokey. It wont matter if you learn to tie or not. But she is very good.
