My hat's better. In fact, I have two that beat that one.
But I like to give compliments.
So....................
I saw Habib the other day. Had his boat hooked to the camel and looked to be heading for the lake on one of those 80 deg days, so I gave him a holler. I said "Hey Habib, you been catchin' any fish?". He said "No fishing for Habib yet, Habib just hook camel to boat to make sure tail lights still work on trailer". I said "Habib, crappie season is just about over water temps are 69 degrees and the spawn is about done." He said "Where Habib fish, fish spawn at 62 degrees....celsius."
I can only assume that ole Habib likes hot weather fishing. He was sporting an awful purty lid even with the temps at 80deg. I do know this, when the temps reach about 143 degrees Fahrenheit (which is 62 deg celsius), in August , ole Habib will be in his element and still be catching a slab or 2 when everyone else is at home in the air conditioning.
I really don't think Habib is much of a fishery guru, so I don't think he could lend any input on what brush piles hold big fish or little fish or what to do to make little fish bigger, but the next time I see him, I will ask if he has any opinion about it.

Lack of nutrient's and not enuff bait fish production due to a lack of nutrient's. Nimrod has the crappie numbers and the spawn. The problem is lack of nutrients in the water for the baitfish. If there was enuff baitfish... there would be healthier and fatter bigger crappie. We all know crappie on Nimrod like to eat. My feeling is the lake is stunted. Too many Crappie for to few baitfish. You may say well other predator fish seem healthy?...this may be so because they feed on larger fish and have a different diet than crappie. You may also say well back in the day we had good fish? Well back in the day you had more nutrients then and better baitfish production. Lakes change over the years and so do their nutrient levels.
I've seen this on many highland lakes...just not Nimrod. Fish just seem to be in pourer shape after the spawn in highland lakes in late spring and summer. I also think in clearer lakes fish just don't have the same feeding opportunities as a lowland river system lake, or lowland lake, or Oxbow and they haft to burn more energy causing a skinnier fish for the most part... For me I am convinced the answer for Nimrod is in the nutrients and finding away to promote baitfish production to sustain the massive amount of crappie that's in the lake. This is why they are eating their own kind and hit bigger baits CA. Cause when your staving.... you take what you can get. LMBO.

Part of that is debateable on what they eat cause I've seen Crappie in Dardanelle with big 4 to 5'' Bluegill hung in their mouth and Atkins there was one with a Yellow Bass hung up. I believe they are oppertunistic feeders but Shad numbers must be down here. See'n few Shad in their gut and more small Crappie.
