Thread: What's the right color jig and jighead for Oconee ?

Totally agree with ChuckyBoy, any shade of blue on Oconee gets bit. If overcast go darker blue if the sun is out go lighter blue. Jighead colors black,pink and orange. If the sun is out high and bright go with a Litehooker"s bubblegum gonna get you some. I will try the pumpkin seed, heard to much about it to ignore it any longer.

Im w Countrytime. There are some retro colors that do it to it on oconee but blues and blacks are a staple and bubble gum and popsiclle does well.

Over the last couple of years, I've found that any dark/light color combination (darker head than the body) with chartruse tail will catch fish. This might sound like a vague answer but for me the color combination has changed from season to season. The only thing that has been a pattern is a darker head than the body. I start with 8-12 color combinations and narrow it down from there. I really think it boils down to the season and water color/stain, if it would be a darker or lighter color jig.

I am going with TimR this Saturday to Oconee. This is his first outing since November 2012. When the day is over we will give you the secret color combo for 3 pound Specs. We will decide on either Lick or Sugar as we ride up there.

Yesterday the all time best color was Green. They bit this goofy frog looking thing with 2 tails off the back of it. It had glitter. I don't even know where i got it, just looked down into the box after having to make a jig change and stuck it on there. Wish I could find who makes em, the fish eat it up so bad they chaffed the line up. Had to hide it to put a minnow on it or the fish would jump in the boat.....okay that last line was not true, but all the rest of the story is!! We kept 32 yesterday and I bet 30 percent of them came on the silly frog!!

The Joker jig might work, it did at Sinclair.

He is probably referring to the Wally Marshall Jokers...or at least that is the first thing that I thought of..When I fished Oconee years ago, Black/Blue/Chartreuse always did well for me and was probably considered my #1 color. Popsicle, Wildcat and Bubblegum did pretty good as well. During the spawn, anything with green and chartreuse seemed to work well.
