Lugging heavy gear can be a problem when fishing without a boat.
Here are some suggestions that you might be able to improve upon.

There are many types of fishing lights, so some suggestions might not work.

L.E.D. lights
has advantage as per L.E.D. Only consumes .02 amps
per so if you have 50 LEDs x's .02 = 1.00 amp draw.

Rechargeable batteries
"D" size battery is 1.5 amps x 8batteries = 12 volts.
Purchase 8 pack battery holder and create hanging
strap around your waist or neck and you have a lighting source for
a fishing light. Would suggest having 2 battery packs so when is
discharged just plug in the the new pack for hours of fun.

Motorcycle, lawn mower
type batteries that can be purchased
at flea markets garage sales. On the internet have found these types
of batteries for low as $11.00. The size is heck of lot lower than regular
size battery and weigh about 1 lb.

Solar Power

Enjoy your light at the deck, pier, pond with very little money involved,
yet years of enjoyment of attracting the fish.

Check and see if your light is capable of the following suggestion.

12 Volt L.E.D. Lights have advantage over many types of lights.

By using a Solar panel one does not need to run high voltage
underground wiring plus being a major concern with children around.

One can purchase Solar Panel ranging from $20.00 upwards at
Gander Mountain and there are many brands on E bay are available

Would suggest that if you wish to
permanently wire any solar panel to a battery you should consider a
regulator to prevent over charging and damaging your batteries.
Basic regulator for solar panels runs around $30.00 and above.

My Reel-Lites from Bob came in the mail today. I can't wait to use them. They look great....or should I say they are awesome. Wow!

Not really a trading thing, but a question for ya Bob...
I use a 5aH battery to run my fish finder on my crappie cart.
I have a flouro light, but have yet to run it off the same battery
because I can't find any amp ratings on it--
tossed the package before the first use even.

Anyhow, with a 1.5amp draw, how long (if you have a clue)
could I expect to run one of your lights?

As much as I love electronics, it sure is hard staying under
the doc's 10# limit on lifting when it comes to fishing.
All that tackle, minnow-bucket full of water,
and beverages/food add up quick so I have to save where I can.

Answer:
Have run the L.E.D light on a 8 pack of AA batteries
here at home, and the lights were still running STRONG
RAYS at 20 hours. The reason for testing with such small
batteries working on a proto type light in conjunction
with the lights have now on the market....
(trade secret )

Therefore with your 5aH battery would dare to say that
you could run 3-5 days without charging your battery.

I like using the Bead Chain Spotlight by Church Tackle. I attach it anywhere from 12-36 inches from my bait or lure. This is a very bright LED light that really penetrates the water well. I have a lot of success with this and wondered if anyone else out there has any thoughts? Have you used this on other breeds of fish? If you want to take a look at a picture here is the link. I'm up here in Maine, and have been thinking about ice fishing at night with a light for crappie. I'm 71, but willing to try something new ) What do you use for batteries to power these lights? I usually don't bring any heavy batteries...just rely on my flasher and auger batteries. Any other info you could supply would be appreciated..

Answer:
8 batteries AA type equals 12 volts and will power L.E.D. Lights upwards of 20 hours with light rays to spare. Using the small batteries can cut down on weight as opposed to lugging around large car batteries. Purchase a 8 pack cell battery packthen you can either hang it around your neck or off your belt

The object to fishing at night is to attract zoo plankton than minnows than game fish.

To be must effective the boat should be anchored in the front and back of the boat to attract the zoo plankton.

The reason is that the boat will pivot around one anchor with the evening breeze and the zoo plankton will have a hard time staying
with the boat, thereby not allowing the minnows to school up.

When anchoring make sure that the anchor is lowered slowly to avoid scaring the game fish.

In addition avoid having the anchor disturb the brush cover, as game fish could already be located in the brush piles.
